2018 Weddings in Black & White - Laura Watson Photography

Atlanta + Coastal Georgia + The Southeast

let's be friends!

Typically my “year in review” posts come in December, but this year is a little different! 2018 brought me the most weddings I’ve photographed in a year and in a season as an Atlanta wedding photographer!

With 31 weddings total, 18 of them took place in September through December (the last 4 months of the year!)

On top of an incredible year full of weddings (and beautiful, captivating ones at that), I also had my own. And the joy of fusing both my personal life and my business one was unlike any other feeling. I’ve been such a giddy human all year, and I’m so thankful that Garrett put up with me through it all!

Despite a heavy workload (and life-load) of weddings that brought me all over the Atlanta area, North Georgia, Alabama, South Carolina and beyond, I never once felt burnout this year. My couples have been the most amazing people to capture, and their families brought me in as one of their own! Looking back through all of these wedding days, I’m reminded of why my job is so beautiful. And I’m excited to share my first year in review post!

2018 in black & white

There’s a saying that color shows what you wore, but black and white shows how you felt. And it’s one of my favorite sayings when it comes to photography! In large part, my job as a wedding photographer is to capture every aspect of my couples’ wedding days. My goal above that is to care and serve them as best as possible.

Something I learned after witnessing over 100 weddings and taking part in my own, is that the day goes by all two quickly. Moments become a blur and soon enough, you’re in the getaway car on your way to the hotel or Airbnb, you take a deep breath, and you think “what just happened??”

What I love about black and white is that even though color shows what something is like, black and white photographs draw out the emotion. You’re able to slow down that moment and be in it with the people around you.

I always tell my couples that they’ll receive every image I take in color, but they’ll only receive certain images in black and white. This is because they’re reserved for the most special moments that take your breath away. (Though my couples receive a bunch of these anyway because on a wedding day those moments are in large supply!)

So these are my favorite black and white images from 2018. Iconic and heartfelt. Real moments, slowed down so that we can relive them forever.

Check back in on Monday for my full year in review!
