MacKenzie and Joe’s Gibbes Museum wedding in Charleston was a day that blended effortless style with personal touches – and a bit of weather drama leading up to it! Just one day before, Hurricane Helene swept through the southeast, bringing tornado warnings and torrential rain to their rehearsal dinner and welcome party at Leon’s Oyster Shed. By Friday, though, the skies cleared, the sun came out, and a crisp breeze rolled in, perfect for their celebration.
The couple began the day at The Ryder Hotel, getting ready in a beautiful suite accented with soft retro tones of salmon and mint. Their wedding palette was classic black and white with pops of greenery, but the reception décor leaned into west coast minimalism. Light wood tables were dressed with linen runners and olives, bringing a California-chic sensibility to the heart of Charleston.
Inside the Gibbes Museum, one of my favorite details was their custom art installation, a gallery wall filled with painted, drawn, and photographed portraits of their beloved dog, Finn, a nod to the museum’s own collections and a personal touch that made guests smile.
As the night went on, guests enjoyed espresso martinis and Chick-fil-A as a late-night treat before sending MacKenzie and Joe off in a rickshaw through the bustling Charleston streets. It was a day full of style, joy, and thoughtful details, set in one of the city’s most beautiful venues.
