Oahu on Film

Oahu on Film

This has been a blog post that I’ve been so excited to write! Before our trip, I made a commitment to myself to dive back into film photography for personal work and travel. I don’t know about you, but as a digital photographer, I’ve gone on trips where I’ve taken hundreds, maybe thousands, of images on my camera and phone…only to get home and do nothing with them!

Occasionally, I’ll post one or two on social media, but I rarely edit, or frame, them in my home. They end up sitting on my computer for months or years until one day, I go back and file them away properly.

Film forces you to take a deep breath before pushing the shutter. Because it’s expensive and you only get 16 frames per roll of film, you have to compose and meter properly. Each image costs more, so every click of the shutter better mean something!

So as we adventured all over Oahu, I brought my film camera along, committed to documenting this once-in-a-lifetime trip! We stayed in Kailua on the southeastern coast near Lanikai Beach, one of the most beautiful on the island! While we visited the beach regularly, we also adventured to some pretty cool places…

Here are some of our favorite things we did:

  1. Getting MARRIED at Kualoa Ranch!
  2. Our half inside/half outside Airbnb in Laie (scroll down for pictures!)
  3. Running through the pineapple maze & eating Dole Whip at the Dole Plantation
  4. Hanging out on the beach for our “rehearsal dinner” with friends in Haleiwa
  5. Grabbing the best frozen yogurt at Ono Yo in North Shore (let’s not forget the food trucks and garlic shrimp, too)!
  6. Sipping Lava Flows in Waikiki
  7. Snorkeling in Hanauma Bay
  8. Kayaking to the Mokulua Islands (it was quite the adventure…)
  9. Grilling out on the beach with our families in Laie
  10. Watching the sunset at Sunset Beach

And none of those words can do our time in Hawaii justice…you’ll just have to look at these pictures (and then go visit for yourself)!

I'm LAURA

welcome to my journal

This is where I love sharing recent weddings and sessions, my travels, and life with my husband, and our three pets. When I'm not capturing a wedding day, I'm often enjoying the outdoors with Garrett, playing with our pups, or finding a new place to call home for the weekend. My passion is telling love stories, and I hope I get to fall in love with telling yours.

let's meet!

THE JOURNAL

North Beach was the perfect location for Nicole and Rob's Tybee Island session. While they played with their pup, Lucy, I simply followed. We ran together on the sand, not worrying for once about dirty hems or windy hair.

Christie and Brian strayed from traditional southern clichés and played into the modern lines and motifs of Fernbank Museum of Natural History in Atlanta throughout their wedding design – from their paper to their florals.

I was honored to be able to capture my second photographer's sweet family for her birthday and Mother’s Day present. We played on the grounds of Meadowlark 1939 and came away with the most lovely photos of her and her family.
